HLTAID012 Provide First Aid In An Education And Care Setting

Course Overview:

This training course offers practical instruction for individuals working in education and care settings to effectively respond to first aid emergencies. The course is designed in accordance with legal and workplace standards, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, and other national peak clinical bodies in Australia.

Learning Objectives:

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify Illness or Injury:

    • Recognize signs and symptoms of various medical conditions and injuries.
  2. Access Emergency Services:

    • Know the procedures for accessing emergency medical services.
  3. Safely Administer First Aid Treatment for Various Conditions:

    • Provide first aid treatment for the following conditions:
      • CPR
      • Defibrillation
      • Anaphylaxis
      • Asthma
      • Envenomation
      • Fractures
      • Dislocations
      • Sprains and strains
      • Bleeding
      • Shock
      • Other medical situations
  4. Understand Basic Anatomy and Physiology:

    • Gain knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology.
  5. Distinguish Between Adults, Children, and Infants in Relation to CPR:

    • Understand the differences in administering CPR to adults, children, and infants.
  6. Manage Acute Illnesses in Infants or Children:

    • Be able to manage acute illnesses in infants or children effectively.
  7. Communication and Documentation:

    • Communicate incident details to parents, caregivers, and emergency services.
    • Complete incident documentation.
    • Debrief for response improvement.
    • Recognize psychological impacts and discuss emotions with children, seeking necessary assistance.

First Aid Course Information

The client’s workplace or facility must have an appropriate and functional space for the course to be conducted. The course location must be approved and confirmed as safe and suitable by Power Training Solutions before the course begins. This may involve an inspection or providing photographs of the proposed course delivery location.

All participants must be physically able to demonstrate practical skills, such as performing uninterrupted CPR on the floor for at least 2 minutes and administering rescue breathing techniques on manikins. Students should be aware that all course activities, including in-person instruction and written assignments, will be conducted in English. It is recommended that students have a good understanding of and be able to communicate effectively in English.

9.5 hours
Around 2 hours of self-paced pre-course study (online) required before attending the course.
3.5 hours of in-person learning
4 hours for written and practical assessments.

Participants in this course will need to finish written and hands-on assessment assignments.

This certificate has an industry recommended renewal period of 36 months / 3 years and CPR 12 months / 1 year.

Enrolment for this course is facilitated through Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909. Demonstrate practical tasks including:

– Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR on an adult, child, and infant resuscitation manikin

– Following prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to deliver at least one shock

– Completing a first aid incident report form based on a simulated first aid scenario

– Managing anaphylaxis, asthma, choking in children and infants, non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, nosebleeds, fractures and dislocations, sprains and strains, and envenomation

– All assessments will adhere to the ARC Guidelines.

Theory assessment: Multiple-choice questions.
